COVID-19 Updates
The University Laboratory School is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation. We will inform all of our families of any updates or changes as we receive them. Please follow the school memos section on the Resources page for the most recent notices.

March 12, 2021
Beginning March 23, 2021, ULS will be allowed to return to campus for in-person instruction under the following learning models:

  • Kindergarten through Grade 5 on campus daily (Monday-Friday) for in-person instruction.
  • Middle and high school students, in grades 6-12 on campus on a A/B two-day rotational blended learning model with two groups of 14 students per grade level receiving in-person instruction. Group A (A1 and A2) are on campus on Monday and Thursday only, and Group B (B1 and B2) are on campus on Tuesday and Friday only. On the days students are not on campus for in-person instruction, they are attending scheduled online Google Meet classes and completing online assignments provided by teachers.

There will be a staggered start in the first week of school following spring break to allow students, faculty and staff the opportunity to transition back to in-person learning on campus. See the first week schedule in the 3.12.2021 parent letter. Check the ULS Spring 2021 Return to Campus Plan for your child’s grade level start and end times and schedule for the remainder of the semester for in-person school days.

August 28, 2020
We have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation by keeping up to date with news and announcements from the governor and state agencies. We have decided to make a determination concerning our distance learning program. ULS will continue with distance learning through Friday, October 2, 2020. We feel that this is the best option for everyone in our ULS ‘ohana at this time. ULS fall break is from October 5 to October 9. Students will return to learning on Monday, October 12, 2020. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as October 2, 2020 approaches.

August 10, 2020
At a news briefing Friday, August 7, 2020, Gov. David Ige announced public schools on O‘ahu would be doing distance learning for the first four weeks of the new school year. As stated in our ULS Return to Campus Plan, in the event that a school closure occurs due to state mandates in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, ULS is prepared to move all grades to a distance learning model. Therefore, a modification has been made to the ULS Return to Campus Plan for all ULS students (K-12) in order to align with this change. ULS will be implementing a full distance learning model for the first four weeks (August 17 – September 11) of this school year. ULS will continue to closely monitor the situation and information shared by Gov. Ige and state agencies to make a determination as to whether or not students can safely return to in-person blended learning models. Should in-person classes be allowed to resume, ULS will commence the A/B blended (in-person and online) learning model for grades 6-12 and face-to-face model for K-5. An announcement will be made the week of September 7, 2020.
