Aloha Parents/Guardians,
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we have been adjusting, like you, to the drastic changes in life during the last few weeks. I am extremely appreciative of our students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators for their positivity, flexibility and resilience during these trying times.
I would also like to extend my appreciation for all of the support at home with helping your child access our ULS learning opportunities. I am really proud of the ULS School community for the way everyone has handled this COVID-19 learning. It has been six weeks since students have graced our campus and all of us in our school community, state and nation are still adjusting to the new reality. All of the ULS faculty and staff are working diligently behind the scenes to provide resources and support for our students. My admiration continues to grow as they embrace the situation and look for opportunities to engage with all our students.
With that said, I am writing to share another important announcement about our teaching and learning in the COVID-19 program. Last Friday, the HIDOE announced that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year and distance learning for students will continue. ULS will be following this directive and carrying on with our program until our last day of school on May 20, 2020. Communication is extremely important during this time of social distancing. Please encourage your child(ren) to continue to stay in touch with his or her teachers and counselors for support.
IT Support
The ULS IT team is available to help parents with troubleshooting in using our ULS laptop devices, Google apps such as Google Classroom and Google Meets, and connectivity or accessibility problems. Parents can email the IT dept at info@universitylaboratoryschool.org. In your email, provide a detailed description of the issues you are having as this will help the team assist you better. Our IT team will try their best to respond to you in a timely manner, but we ask for your patience as they are fielding help requests from all of our K-12 students and families.
If your child is having trouble using the school issued device, they can contact the IT dept at ULS student portal or https://it.crdg.hawaii.edu:8443/helpdesk/WebObjects/Helpdesk.woa. IT can also assist students with using any of the Google suite applications if your child needs help with that.
Powerschool (K-5)
The K-5 PowerSchool Update #4 on Friday, April 24, 2020, will be completed by the teachers and will cover your child’s progress that would have been shared at the ULS Parent-Teacher Conference that was scheduled for the week of March 23, 2020. This update will not cover progress after the extended spring break through the present. Parents are encouraged to check your child’s progress in the PowerSchool Program. If you need assistance with access to PS please contact the PS Hotline by calling 956-7649 or via email at the link: powerschool@universitylaboratoryschool.org
End-of-the-school-year
In the coming weeks, we will be updating you on end-of-the-school-year things like collecting of school property, distribution of yearbooks, and picking up personal belongings in cubbies and lockers. We are also working on refunding those that have paid for school related activities or expenses prior to the school closures.
Our goal has always been to provide continuous educational opportunities and practice for students while schools are closed, but also to eliminate as much stress as feasibly possible for students, parents, and teachers. While it is our responsibility to continue to educate our students, we also want to compassionately take into consideration the variety of difficulties that our families and employees are enduring during this time. With just a little less than a month left in this school year, I want to convey my gratitude for being able to be a part of a truly inspiring and caring school community. We will close this 2019-2020 school year much differently than ever before, but with the same sense of Jr. Bows spirit and pride.
I hope that you and your family remain healthy and safe during this time and I look forward to reconnecting soon.
